Burdens Made Light

Reading: Matt 11:30, Mosiah 18:8, Mosiah 24:15

Yesterday I shared with you how dissappointed I was that the townhouse we are currently renting is going up for sale, meaning we will have to move this summer.  Another piece of news we found out yesterday is that the division my husband is working for is starting to feel the effects of the current economic troubles.  Although it is not a huge problem at the moment, there is potential for bigger problems if they are not able to do better over the next few months to a year.

So, yesterday evening I was feeling pretty depressed and worried.  So, being me, I sat down and wrote it all out in my journal.  As I did I prayed for help with strength and knowledge to deal with these problems.  After doing that I was blessed with a feeling of comfort and some ideas on how to deal with the problems we are facing.

Heavenly Father promises that if we go to him our burdens will be made lighter.  In Mosiah 24:15 it says:

And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.

Another requirement of being a member of the church is that we life each other’s burdens.  Being a member of the church can also help to make our burdens lighter in this way, as it says in Mosiah 18:8:

And now, as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light.

The gospel does indeed help me to make my burdens lighter.  Sometimes that is because the scriptures give me comfort and insight. Sometimes that is because we have a network of people we can call on to help us our problems, such as moving.

Today I am going to email the relief society presidency and let them know we are looking for a new place to move into in June, and ask them to add a note in the weekly relief society email to ask if anybody knows a place that will be open then.  If we could stay in the same ward that would be especially nice.

What burdens have you had in the past that the gospel has helped you deal with?  Do you have any burdens that you need to take the Lord to be lightened?
